- Description
The purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of the library branch operations. The position is responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and organizing library information, coordinating library programs, and assisting library patrons. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Directs all aspects of library operations such as circulation, reference, adult and children’s programs, and outreach programs.
- Monitors expenditures and maintains financial records; may prepare and submit budget information to meet needs of citizens for library services.
- Gathers and maintains information for reports on library income, usage, library income, usage, activities and events; updates library information as needed.
- Recommends additions to library collections based on needs assessments of public interest and needs.
- Promotes community image of library and public awareness of library services through public information programs, outreach programs, displays, and public presentations.
- Monitors physical branch conditions; makes recommendations on maintaining grounds, buildings, and fixtures.
- Ensures that equipment and facilities used by the public are in working order on a daily basis; advises patrons on the use of computer resources, operations, and the Internet.
- Assists the public at service desk, checks out materials, retrieves reference sources, answers reference questions, makes recommendations, issues library cards, collects fees, and provides information as requested.
- Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, telephoning, and copying.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS).
- Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- South Carolina State Library Certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
