Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Located at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law, the Family and Small Business Program (“FSB”) promotes the development and resilience of family and small businesses. The program has three areas of emphasis: (1) building bridges with local service organizations, government agencies, and legal professionals to support family and small businesses; (2) creating specialized coursework and hands-on experiences for law students; and (3) establishing family business law as a distinctive area of academic inquiry that integrates corporate law, family law, and trusts and estates.
The fellowship focuses on supporting South Carolina small and family owned businesses. The fellow will investigate issues of concern to the business community and assist individual business owners needing help by connecting them with appropriate resources.
Qualifications
- A demonstrated interest in Family and Small Business law;
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills as demonstrated through a writing sample and academic record.
- Ability to manage and organize long-term projects; and
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Job Duties

Job Duty
The fellow will create and manage a statewide database of lawyers who can provide services to small and family business owners on topics including entity formation, governance, employment law, tax and estate planning, and dispute resolution.
