Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the White Oaks Residence Manager maintains the cleanliness and overall appearance of White Oaks. Performs tasks as assigned by White Oak’s occupants for the purpose of maintaining the household. May provide informal tours and provide the history of White Oaks.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

1. Maintains the overall appearance by:

  • Dusting, sweeping and mopping or vacuuming floors and stairs.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting showers, sinks, drains, and grout in restroom.
  • Ensuring supplies are provided.
  • Cleaning glass doors, mirrors and windows, furniture, vents, baseboard in hallways and kitchen.
  • Cleaning/dusting blinds.
  • Cleaning and polishing brass, silver, and glassware.
  • Emptying and washing trash cans.
  • Cleaning kitchen areas as needed.
  • Cleaning up spills.
  • Cleaning preparation area and dishes / flatware.
  • Cleaning light fixtures/chandeliers.
  • Detailing pool area and other exterior areas to prepare for special events.

2. Household laundry.

3. Tracks and maintains linen inventory.

4. Identifies unsafe conditions and notifies supervisor of the need to correct the problem.

5. Maintains housekeeping equipment assigned by following operating, storage and cleaning procedures and notifying supervisor of problems as they occur.

6. Performs tasks as assigned by White Oak’s occupants for the purpose of maintaining the household including, but not limited to, running errands and purchasing groceries as needed.

7. Follows safety procedures.

8. Completes performance review process with supervisor/employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.

9. Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.

10. Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.

11. Maintains the confidentiality of the President’s home.

12. Knows the history of White Oaks and can provide informal tours as necessary.

13. Perform other duties as assigned. The intent of this job classification description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions in this classification and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Relationships:

Works daily with immediate supervisor, occupants, grounds personnel, and guests to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.

Responsibility for Final Decisions:

Responsible for own work. May assist or instruct other doing similar work.

Tasks are well-defined and repetitive, following prescribed steps, methods and/or procedures. Work involves limited choice with regard to the selection of appropriate tools, methods or materials.

Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck.

Reports to: Supervisor, Building and Grounds – White Oaks

Completed work is referred to supervisor for review.

Education/Skill Requirements:

High School graduate with 1 – 2 years experience in related field.

Ability to read and understand written instructions and product labels.

Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment.

Ability to complete work independently.

Ability to be flexible and easily deal with changes.

Ability to be attentive to detail.

Ability to be congenial with guests as a representative of Furman University.

Ability to maintain confidentiality as deemed appropriate.

Ability to work around antiques and collectibles.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed both inside under usual conditions and outside under varied weather conditions.

Continuous exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and requires following safety precautions.

Frequently requires lifting of up to 30 lbs. unassisted and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.

Frequently requires reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, and pulling.

Household pets will be kept in the private/family areas, so must not have fear of or allergies to pets.
